The recent technology in operating systems, especially from Windows 10 onward, developed to improve screen rasterization, tends to ignore or even worsen the display of TrueType hand-hinting.
Therefore, it is advisable to use this new version of PragmataPro.
Extract the static font you like
Many IDEs do not support variable fonts, so you can export static fonts with your preferred weights and use them instead.
Install FontTools if it is not already installed:
pip install fonttools
Then run the following command:
fonttools varLib.mutator "PragmataProVF_liga_09.ttf" wght=370
This will generate a static, unhinted font with a weight of 370.

This font is superb, I tried a lot of fonts in past year and this one is by far the best. Also like previous commenters said it works great on HiDPI screens.

I have owned the original PragmataPro since 2017 and it has served me very well, but on HiDPI displays, it had a tendency to render a little too thick at certain sizes. This new version does away with this with its fully adjustable weight axis and it’s still the same PragmataPro we all know and love. I certainly do and I thank Fabrizio for his continued support of the font. One of the best programming fonts out there has just gotten a lot better.

PragmataPro was already my favorite font for my code editor, terminals, and notes app – and now having a variable font allows me to fine-tune the font width. On my high-DPI display, the regular PragmataPro always felt a tiny bit too wide (but it was fine on another display), so this is just perfect now.

I’ve been using PragmataPro for more than a decade as the font to go in code editors, console, even e-mail client. Besides just looking nice and consistent it’s huge advantage back in the days was amazing support for other languages (at least alphabetic ones like Cyrillic) and special symbols. Much appreciated that the font as updated with custom icons, so extensions like powerline just worked even in the console, without need to install a separate font.
Now the variable font is out continuing best traditions. It is slightly wider than the original one which gives it more “classical” terminus-like look, which is pleasant to eyes, considering that recent screens are getting wider.

Long-time PragmataPro user. Like many reading this (I assume), I spend a LOT of time in the terminal and text editors. PragmataPro is the standard I measure all other fonts by. I’ve tried dozens (if not hundreds) of fonts over the years, and I keep coming back to PragmataPro.
I recently got the new variable fonts version and am enjoying it! I really appreciate the “Nerd Font” inclusion as before I was patching the font manually.
The attention to detail and concern for the user here is rare and appreciated.

i’ve been using PragmataPro since 2017, which is when i was still in middle school! i wanted it very badly but didn’t have the cash, so i begged my parents for it. (it was difficult explaining to them what it was, to say the least…)
now i’m an engineer with the money to properly purchase PragmataPro VF :0]
i’ve tried _many_ programming fonts, and i still try different ones sometimes, but PragmataPro is the one i always come back to without failure. at this point my eyes are wired for it.

I fell in love with PragmataPro almost exactly a decade ago after years of constantly switching monospace fonts. The release of the variable font was such a wonderful surprise and resolves so many little issues with terminals, editors, and browsers across Windows, Linux, and macOS that’ve rendered different weights and variants inconsistently over the years. I’ve really enjoyed the level of control Fabrizio’s other variable fonts offer, so having the same flexibility with the font I spend most of my personal and professional time using is amazing.

If there’s one thing in my development environment that I won’t see changing any time soon (and hasn’t changed for the past decade), it’s PragmataPro. Now the best is even better with PragmataPro VF because I can set the weight to exactly what I want (and even extract the weight as a static font). Thank you Fabrizio for such an amazing dedication to the craft.

I went through so many monospaced fonts and none of those made me happy. Then I discovered PragmataPro and directly fell in Love with this font. With PragmataPro VF it is one step higher. I use it in MacVim and in Emacs. Furthermore in the Webbrowser Vivaldi to toggle via CSS Websites between monospace and proportional font, because sometimes text is to be read better when it’s not proportional and PragmataPro and PragmataPro VF are the ideal fonts for this. The latter font gives a possibility for writing longer texts, because of it’s variableness. When beeing printed it also looks great. I don’t want to be without the two fonts anymore. ❤️

Finally, I found the font (and flavor) that is best to my eyes.
After 20+ years in IT (software development & it ops), I keep investing in stuff (fonts, monitors) to protect my vision.
I also purchased PragmataPro, although I gave up to it after some months due to the boldness of the regular version.
Now with PragmataPro Variable, I made the lighter version of the regular one (using fonttools varLib.mutator “PragmataProVF_liga_09.ttf” wght=300) as per official docs, and now I really consider that this font and flavor is the best one and this stops my journey to found the best readable monospaced font.

Best font for my use case. Until the release of the variable font, PP was a bit too thick for my taste, but now it’s perfect. I’m using it in Neovim with heavy “Nerd Font” symbol use. The fact that the symbols are all integrated in and adapted to PP itself makes it very usable for me. Thank you!

Works fine in some GUI applications like Zed. Didn’t play nicely with Emacs, which is my (admittedly niche) primary editor. Blurry font hinting, weird letter spacing, some other problems.
